KIDS AND HUNTING

Luke
caught this 5 1/2 lb, 21" bass while fishing with a magic worm.
Starting
your kids in hunting at an early age is a good way to spend quality time with
them. Their young minds seem to absorb knowledge at this age and hunting is
something that will last with them thru a life time. In some states they have
limited the age of when kids can hunt, basically until their teenage years,
which is a real shame. My son, Luke, is 8 years old, and started shooting
crossbows at the age of 6, (with parental guidance of course),. He enjoys
walking around the yard with his hickory bow, pvc quiver strapped to his back
and 2 arrows, while shooting at a plastic pop bottle that he throws out about 10
yards away. The draw weight on his bow is only about 20 lbs, if
that.

Me and Luke enjoy archery season.
Alot of fall days and with a long archery season, that's alot of time to spend
together. He would like to deer hunt with his long bow, but here in Ohio a bow
minimum weight is 40 lbs, so he isn't quit ready for that yet. But I recon
that's one good thing about hunting in Ohio, they don't have a problem with the
crossbow, and every year for the last couple years, me and Luke start out about
august and go thru september shooting our crossbows every now and then, and he's
actually quit good with his crossbow. I recon this is just another example of
why crossbows should be allowed in every state and why they should lower the
hunting age in those states that are denying kids and their parents to spend
this quality time together.

Take the time to take your kids hunting, it will be as much fun for you as
it is for them. But always make sure safety comes first.

Lukes first deer Nov, 20. 2005, a doe taken with
a muzzleloader in Oak Hill, Ohio.
